I'm Married, Now What?

On December 31, 2016 the snow poured here in Vancouver, a rarity even though we are in Canada, rain is normally what happens in the Lower Mainland.  But lucky for me my winter wonderland wedding dream became reality and our day went off without a hitch.  Our wedding was flawless, nothing that mattered went wrong and I believe this is because I surround myself with amazing people.  A huge thank you to my parents, maid of honour, bridesmaids, groomsmen, groomswomen, family and friends for making our day so special!

It’s really hard to describe how I feel after our big day, it was an emotional day and lots of happy tears, but afterwards the feeling I felt and still feel, is indescribable, besides happy and joyful its comfortable and confident.  I felt this way before but I feel it even more now, a secure comfort knowing that I married the man of my dreams, someone I can talk to every day and who understands me and loves me for all my faults and my strengths.  It’s a really neat feeling.
And don’t get me wrong, you can still have these feelings even if you don’t get married; this is just me talking about me.

And now I have to think to myself, I’m married, now what?

For some, they keep their last name, but not this girl; I have been looking forward to this day my whole life!  And now the real work begins, and so do the bills, it’s not cheap to change everything but for me, it’s worth every penny!

I thought it might be nice to share, all in one place, all the ID’s that need to be changed once you decide to change your name in BC:

  • Your Employer
  • B.C. Health Services Card
  • B.C. Driver’s License
  • Car Insurance (ICBC)
  • Canadian Passport
  • Social Insurance Number
  • Bank Account
  • Credit Cards
*Notice you do not see the legal change of name application in the Province of BC on my list.  That is because your marriage certificate is your legal name change with the BC government*

Your Employer
Each employer is different, so contact your HR department or your boss for the proper paperwork to fill out.

B.C. Health Services Card
If you are employed your name change for this will go through your employer and they will send it in for you.  If you are not, contact Health Insurance BC at 604.683.7151 or 1.800.663.7100 to change your name on your BC Services Card. After you’ve received your confirmation letter via mail, you can visit an ICBC driver license office to officially change your name on your services card. Don’t forget to bring your confirmation letter.

B.C. Driver’s License
If you moved in with your husband after the wedding for the first time, you will need to change the address on your license. You can do this online or in person but going in person will allow you to change your name at the same time (although this can be done with the above). Don’t forget to bring marriage certificate, two pieces of ID in both your old or new name and money to pay for the new license. (Looking for the closest office near you? Click here.)

Car Insurance
When you have your new married name temporary license (usually a yellow piece of paper until the real thing is mailed to you 2 weeks later) you can change your name on your insurance. There are a lot of small Autoplan insurance agencies in each city and anybody can do it for you. Don’t forget to bring your temporary driver’s license, your marriage certificate and obviously, your insurance papers from your car.

Canadian Passport
If you have a lot of flights scheduled I would hold off and leave this as the last piece of ID you change as you don’t want to risk booking flights in the wrong name and running into issues.  You can stay you’re your maiden name and shouldn’t have any issues flying with it at all. I’ve heard you could book a ticket with your maiden name and fly with a passport in your married name, if you carry your marriage license with you at all times. But that is hear say so make sure you look into that before flying.
For any name change, you have to apply for a new passport. You cannot use a passport renewal process for a name change; unfortunately it needs to be a new Adult General Passport Application form. You’ll need proof of Canadian citizenship (birth certificate or citizen certificate), two supporting pieces of ID in your new name, two photos, one signed by a guarantor and required fees. You will also need your marriage certificate (original or a copy.)

Social Insurance Number
You will need to change your name attached to your Social Insurance Number with the Canada Revenue Agency. You must do this change in person (There are exceptions, if you live more than 100km from a Service Centre, classic Canada, wide open spaces) at a Service Canada Office.  Don’t forget to bring: your social insurance number, if you haven’t memorized it, your marriage certificate and another piece of ID. You can also change your marital status and link your account to your spouse’s number.

Bank Account
If you’re opting for a joint account you will need to go into the bank with your spouse and will need to bring your marriage certificate to change my last name and then your spouse will need ID to add them to your new joint account.

Credit Cards
The procedure for this will vary from company to company. Some credit cards will be fine with a phone call and providing your new married name, others will want a copy of your marriage certificate mailed in with a copy of your ID.

The items listed above are the major things to change after your wedding, I’m sure as time goes on I will find my maiden name popping up here and there to be changed!

I hope this list helps you as it has for me and enjoy being married as much as I do!

I’m also looking forward to blogging more, so I hope you will come back from time to time and read what I have to say.

Happy Wednesday my friends

So Let Me Ask You.....

This is such a hard one for me, as a TV-holic I watch so many shows that suck me in each and every week, it's hard for me to choose just one, so here are my top 5!

1. The Goldbergs - Thursdays on ABC
For those who grew up in the 80's what a time it was, this show transports you each week right back to the 80's where the hair was big, the clothes were... bad, and creativity was abundant because the internet did not exist!  Trust me check this one out, it's GOLD (bergs).

2. Survivor - Wednesdays on CBS
Could I do it for a month?  Could you?  Only way to find out would be to be trapped there for a month.  I hate spiders, bugs, sand and dirt, so my odds are very low that I would survive.

3.  The Good Wife - Sundays on CBS
Not only do I love this show but JEFFERY DEAN MORGAN (Denny from Grey's Anatomy) has joined the cast.  Spending one month drooling over him is something I could definitely handle!

4. How to Get Away With Murder - Thursdays on ABC
Well now I know how to get away with murder, would I ever dare?  nope.  Each week a new twist and turn comes our way out of left field, having you second guess yourself and who you think the killer is!  One of the best shows out there, I route for the good guys and the bad guys each time!

5. Once Upon A Time - Sundays on ABC
A month in a fairy tale, it's every girls DREAM!  And it's filmed right in my backyard (well close enough)!  I think this show would be the best behind the scenes out there, you would get to see how long it takes for wardrobe and makeup and how they piece the past and present together in every episode.  Not to mention hanging out with the cast, so much fun!

YOUR TURN, tell me what TV show(s) would you want to be trapped in for a month?

What Does Fall Mean To You?

For most, fall means big sweaters, copious cups of tea, stylish boots and warm cozy nights! But not this girl; I am most excited about my favourite shows returning and new shows beginning.  With the nights cooling off, I have an excuse to sit inside cuddling with my favourite tea, main squeeze, little boy and bestie, to enjoy it all, not that I have ever needed an excuse to watch TV.

And with that being said ... drum roll please... here it is:

OhSoLindsay's infamous television schedule for the 2015 fall season.  A jam packed complete guide to when your favourite shows are on and when the new shows you've been waiting for premiere!

Enjoy my friends and Happy September!

Summer, Summer, Summertime, Let's Just Sit back and REwind

Happy Monday My Friends,
(Better late than never right my friends)

Okay so back in the day we used to have to rewind in order to watch our shows, VHS's did not do that automatically for us, unlike today with PVR.

Since it is summer and I know you will all be outdoors enjoying that beautiful sunshine, I thought, 'Hey, my friends would still like to know when their favourite summer shows begin, wouldn't they?' That answer I know is a big YES!

So here it is!  A mixture of returning and new shows to keep us entertained for those rainy nights, or that summer cold you may catch!

So when Emma Karn, the 16-year-old daughter of an old girlfriend, goes missing in a sea of hippies and Hodiak agrees to find her, he faces only hostility, distrust and silence. He enlists the help of Brian Shafe - a young, idealistic undercover vice cop who's been allowed to grow his hair out - to infiltrate this new counterculture and find her.
A little mystery is always good for the summer!

Guess Who's Back. Back Again. OhSoLindsay's Back! Tell a Friend!

I am sorry I have been gone for so long my friends, but I’m back and ready to blog about all my new life experiences being a HOMEOWNER!  (And of course television) Yep you read right, in January of this year I purchased my first home!!  31 years in the making and I am finally living on my own, in my own home, owned by me!

For the last 31 years I have lived with my family filling my 240 square foot bedroom to the brim with clothes, purses, shoes, Starbucks mugs, trinkets, books (that I never read), sunglasses and a whole lot more.  This last year has been filled with searching for the right home, putting in offers and dealing with the rejection of homes I thought were "the one".  And now after this emotional roller coaster I am now living in the perfect home for me!  Of course with purchasing a new home and coming from a bedroom I have had the daunting task of finding furniture for every room in my house, which has been more stressful than I ever thought it would be!   When I would dream about my own home, it already had the furniture in it and all ready to move in.  NEWS FLASH: that’s not how it is in real life!

So here’s my first question:  when do you stop trying to match everything and start buying what you like?!  Don’t get me wrong, I love each piece I have bought for my home, BUT it was a long process of thinking about it, going home and measuring, discussing for hours on end, searching other stores and then taking the step to buy it.
I have been driving myself, my family and my boyfriend crazy trying to find the ‘right’ furniture for my home that ‘matches’ with the other pieces and something that I love not just like.  I have been told by many ‘you can always get something for now and change it later on down the road’  How do I feel about this?  Well did my mom think that the dining room set bought in 1990 with the white washed oak and pink and white upholstery would still be in our house today in 2015? NOPE!  So I will continue holding out for that right piece of furniture!

I purchased my home on January 30th 2015 and it took me until March 13th to move in, for many reasons;

  1. I wanted to do a few small renos to my place and paint it
  2. I had NO furniture, not even a bed, so I was waiting for those to be delivered.  NEWS FLASH: The delivery date is NEVER the delivery date
  3. I was leaving my family.  My family and I are extremely close, and I love spending time with them, so the thought of moving out, on my own, by myself was a little scary, exciting but scary
So on March 13th, 2015 I took the day off and packed up my whole room, every single thing, which sadly fit into my jeep in one load and headed to my new home.  I cried all day.  I was sad to be leaving my family EVEN THOUGH I was going back home for dinner.

Here we are a month later and although I LOVE, absolutely LOVE, my home, and enjoy having my own space, I still miss my family and dogs each and every day.  It’s a different feeling when you are sitting on the couch watching TV by yourself than when you do that with people around you, even if you aren't talking.

When you first moved out of your parents’ house, were you as emotional as me?

The adventure has just begun for me, my new home and this new chapter of my life, so stay tuned.

And come back next week, for season finale rundowns and season renewals for next year!

Happy Wednesday

Oh So Lindsay's Top 5 Fall Picks - New Series Premieres

Happy Wednesday Everyone,

Who else is as excited as I am for all the new and returning shows to start?  I am SO excited.  Nervous that now I will have to balance my life with my friends, boyfriend and family and still manage to find time to watch all 8 million shows I watch!  But that’s what PVR was invented for and mine will be working overtime!
Here are my top 5 picks for the NEW shows I am most looking forward to this fall:

#1 Madam Secretary

From the first hint of this show I knew I was going to love it.  I mean I haven’t even seen it yet but the clips that I have seen, they have already sucked me in!  For some reason I am a lover of unconventional presidential shows (Dave, The American President, Veep), so it doesn’t surprise me that this is my number one, must see show this fall.  Tèa Leoni’s humor and wit are on display for the world to see reeling us in as Elizabeth McCord, a determined Secretary of State who battles office politics and circumvents protocols as she negotiates global and domestic issues.  An out of the box thinking and do’er this girl is going to prove that not everything has to be played by the rules.
Set your PVR’s my friends you won’t want to miss the premiere of this on September 21st at 8pm on CBS.

#2 Black-ish

Created and starring Anthony Anderson, Lawrence Fishburn, and Tracee Ellis Ross as the Johnson family in the new hit comedy of the fall!  The Johnson’s have four fun-loving and uniquely different kids, living in an affluent, mostly white neighborhood which enhances the hilarity of the storyline as the kids try to fit in whereas Anderson tries to keep them rooted in his idea of black culture.   Could this be the 21st century ‘Cosby Show’?  Tune in September 24th at 930pm on ABC to find out!

#3 Gotham
Before Bruce Wayne was Batman and commissioner Gordon was the commissioner, it was just Gotham city, where people continued on in their merry way.  This dark and entirely new chapter of the great DC comics Super-Villians and vigilantes follows one cop’s rise through a dangerously corrupt city teetering between good and evil, and chronicling the birth of one of the most popular super heroes of our time.  Ben McKenzie (Southland and the OC) stars as James Gordan, two weeks new in his detective position and engaged to his beloved fiancée Barbara Kean (Erin Richards, Open Grave) he is living his dream and restoring the city back to the version he remembers as a kid.  Paired with police legend Havey Bullock (Donal Logue) the two stumble upon the city’s highest profile case ever: the murder of local billionaires Thomas and Martha Wayne, leaving sole survivor Bruce (David Mazous, Touch) and creating a kinship bond with Gordon.  Gordon and Bullock will confront gang boss Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith), mob kingpin Carmine Falcone (John Doman), Selina Kyle future Catwomen (Camren Bicondova), Oswald Cobblepot /The Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) and The Riddler/Edward Nygma (Cory Micheal Smith).  All you comic book fans NEED to PVR this one, as this new series will take you on a glipse of how Gotham came to be.
Watch as your childhood unfolds September 22nd at 8pm on FOX!

#4 Scorpion

Misfits unite in this high-octane drama about an eccentric genius Walter O’Brien and his team of brilliant misfits who compraise the last line of defense against complexs, high-tech threats if the modern age.  Working for Homeland Security, the new think tank ‘Scorpion’ teams themselves up with an unlikely source, a young boy like them and his mother who shows them how to conduct themselves with outsiders’ also known as real people.
Nerds unite September 22nd at 9pm on CBS!

#5 Bad Judge

Kate Walsh is back to primetime in this season’s hottest courtroom dramedy.  Rebecca (Kate Walsh) Judge upholds the law by day and breaks it by night; A wild child who knows how to have a good time, while being one of LA’s toughest and most respected criminal court judges.  She has a reputation for unorthodox behavior in the courtroom, She parties too much and rocks out on the drums in a band with her best friend, Jenny. While there's no shortage of male admirers who would love to spend time with her, she's not ready to settle down... except when an eight-year-old boy - whose parents were put in jail by Rebecca - needs her help. He may, in fact, be the one thing that starts to tame this "bad" judge.
The judgments start October 2nd at 9pm on NBC.

Runner up:
Could you survive constantly out-living your friends and family?  Check out how Dr. Henry Morgan does September 23rd at 10pm on ABC with a sneak peek September 22nd at 10pm on ABC

Have a great day my friends!
